National Sports Day Celebration at Apex International School Nakodar

National Sports Day — Honouring Champions, Inspiring Futures

Every year on 29th August — the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand — India celebrates National Sports Day. At Apex International Public Senior Secondary School, this occasion is celebrated with tremendous energy, pride and purpose. It is a day when the school grounds come alive with the thunder of athletic competition, the cheering of enthusiastic crowds, and the glint of medals earned through honest effort and dedication.

Under the inspiring leadership of Principal Ms. Shallu Gupta, National Sports Day at Apex has evolved into one of the most vibrant and meaningful events in the school's calendar. The day is designed not just as a series of competitions, but as a celebration of the values that sport embodies — perseverance, sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline and the unyielding will to improve. These are precisely the qualities that Ms. Gupta believes every Apex student must carry into every walk of life.

Building Champions of Tomorrow

The National Sports Day celebration at Apex International School begins with a special assembly dedicated to the life and legacy of Major Dhyan Chand — the hockey genius who mesmerised the world with his stick-work, won three Olympic gold medals for India (1928, 1932, 1936), and whose relentless practice and humble dedication became an eternal inspiration for every aspiring athlete. Students learn about the Wizard of Hockey, his role in bringing global recognition to India, and why his birthday was chosen as India's National Sports Day — a tribute as permanent as his legacy.

Principal Ms. Shallu Gupta delivers an address that goes to the heart of what sport truly teaches. She reminds students that every athlete who stands at the starting line has already shown courage — the courage to try, to face defeat gracefully, and to come back stronger. She speaks about how sport nurtures the body and sharpens the mind, and how physical fitness is not a luxury but a necessity for a life of excellence. Her words electrify the atmosphere and send students onto the field not merely to win but to give their absolute best.

The day features a range of athletic events tailored to different age groups — sprint races, relay events, long jump, shot put, tug of war, and team sports competitions. Both boys and girls compete with equal enthusiasm, reflecting the school's commitment to equal opportunity and recognition in sport. A Fit India pledge is taken by the entire school community, with students and teachers together committing to incorporate daily physical activity into their lives.

The culmination of the day is the prize distribution ceremony, where not only winners but also the most improved athletes and the most sporting participants are recognised. Ms. Gupta personally presents trophies and certificates, her words of encouragement making every recipient feel that their effort — not just their result — is what truly matters. As the day ends with students proudly displaying their medals and the grounds ring with the sound of laughter and camaraderie, it is clear that Apex International School is producing not just academically excellent students, but well-rounded, physically fit, and characterful human beings.
